little lungs loves: beauty

I love all things beauty - because I am one. And I’ve tried everything under the sun cos I am a sucker who has no self control and yes I’ve bought an eye shadow palette because I only liked one shade leave me alone I am who I am. So I’ve decided to share some of my absolute favourites that I can’t live without and savour like they are the oracle of yewf.

First off - skincare. I actually have really shit skin (technical term) and have been on a helluva journey to get it halfway decent. Part of that journey is giving it MOISTURE and these masks do just that. The MediK8 Ultimate Recovery Bio Cellular Mask and the Go-To Transformazing Face Mask are two excellent serum sheet masks that drench the face in all of the good things and leave you glowing. The MediK8 mask is more expenno and only comes in a packet of six but has so much extra serum in the sachet that I use it to apply to my neck and chesticles so in that respect it is #worthit. Go-To’s Face Hero is another excellent product in their repertoire. It’s a face oil that is packed with a ton of good stuff including all the anti-’s - antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. I use it after my serum and before my moisturiser in the morning to brighten and soothe me skin.

Moving on to makeup - hands down my favourite beauty product/would grab it if my house was burning down is the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil. It’s a powder-wax formula, it blends well, it’s easy to apply IT’S JUST GOOD. To finish off my brows I use the Surrat Expressioniste Brow Pomade. I have quite thick and long eyebrow hairs and most brow gels loose their hold quite quickly on my strong arse bad boys (the only strong thing about me) but the Surrat gel is as hard as a rock.

Next up I am really in love with the Chantecaille Le Camouflage Stylo. It’s a brightening and hydrating under eye concealer and it’s so light and fluid. I have found it to be the best concealer for the eye area because it doesn't sit in your creases and accentuate you under eye lines. Staying on the subject of eyes - The Kevin Aucoin The Volume Mascara has been a real game changer for me. I am so shit at applying mascara normally and I’ve always found them to be lumpy and how many layers do you apply being a girl is so hard. Anyway this applies like a dream and gives your lashes the perfect amount of volume without flaking.

On to ze lips. Bite Beauty High Pigment Lip Pencils have been in my wheelhouse for ages. I use them like a lipstick and they are super pigmented, creamy and really long lasting. I also like to layer my lip sticks and these blend really well with others. NARS lipsticks also win on the formula/pigment/staying power front. They are great for a night out when you don't want to worry about touch ups and they are lovely and hydrating so your lips wont feel parched of loife.

A recent addition to my makeup collection, but it has become a fast favourite, is the Too Faced Born This Way foundation. It is medium to full coverage and blends so well into your skin it’s like you can’t even tell you're wearing foundation. It’s hydrating and brightening and essentially liquid magic. Finally, The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette is the perfect sun kissed bronzey glowy palette. The powder’s catch the light beautifully and blur all your imperfections so it looks like your face has it shit together.

So that’s that. I would love to know your favourite products. Christmas is coming up and mumma is making a list!

The Meaning Behind Little Lungs

WDYM.gif

Ever since I started little lungs (FYI always lowercase) I’ve been asked by a number of people how I came up with the name and what it means. little lungs came about because I was wanting to use a name other than my own for my brand. I wanted something that was unique to me and also represented my approach to design. After a long brainstorm and many procrastination hair plaits later the idea of little lungs came to mind based on the long running joke, and truth, that I have crap lungs. This truth-lol™️ is due to the fact that I was born with a hella rare condition called Nemaline Myopathy which affects all the muscles in me bod, lungs included, making them weak af (technical term). This also means that I've had to use a wheelchair since I was six because I've got the stamina of a sloth, even taking a few steps for me is super tiring.

Growing up with Nemaline though never affected anything I wanted to do - it did affect some places I wanted to go to though cos accessibility is shiiiet - but I was still able to get my driver’s licence (passed first time nbd), I went to uni and I’ve fucking skied. And all of that stuff is pretty commendable but it’s not inspirational. I haven't climbed Mt. Everest,  I haven't taken a make-up free selfie,  I’m literally just living my life as anyone else would.

So from a design point-of-view little lungs is about being small, yet powerful but from a personal point-of-view it’s about not being embarrassed about the parts of myself that are flawed, instead I am taking ownership of it as something that is me, but does not necessarily define me.
